Der Tag der Tropenwälder wurde 1989 durch den WWF initiiert und findet seitdem jährlich am 14. September statt. Mit dem Aktionstag wird auf die drohende Zerstörung der Regenwälder hingewiesen. Tropenwälder werden der grüne Gürtel genannt - produzieren 40 % des Sauerstoffes und sind die grüne Lunge der Erde.
